Fence Calculator — Panels, Posts, Gates & Cost

Plan fence panels, shared posts and gate openings for connected or separate runs. Compare material, delivery and installation quotes.

Panel fence material estimate

12 panels · 14 posts

1 gate opening · gate posts already included

Plan connected runs, corners and gates without counting shared posts twice.

Edit your fence
1. Fence segment · 48 ft

6 panels · 8 ft per bay

2. Gate opening · 4 ft

Gate posts are included in the total.

3. Fence segment · 48 ft

6 panels · 8 ft per bay

First and last endpoints are separate posts.

Connection order only, not a scaled site plan. Each fence segment can contain several panels. Ground slope and angles are not represented.

Your layout

Measure from post centre to post centre. Choose the permitted spacing for your actual panel system; nominal panel width may differ. Use decimal points for fractions.

Compare with your supplier quote

All prices must use the same currency. Gate price means the complete kit per opening. Enter 0 only when an item is genuinely free or included. Blank prices keep the total incomplete.

Enter all relevant prices for a quoted total.

Caps, fixings, concrete, tax and site work are excluded unless included in your quotes. Quantities do not specify structural suitability.

Convert a clear gate opening to centre span

Clear opening is the distance between post faces, including the required hardware gaps. It is not simply the gate leaf width. Values below use the selected layout unit.

Enter the opening and both post widths (ft).

How fence panels and posts are counted

Every fence segment is split into equal bays no longer than your chosen maximum spacing. Each bay uses one new panel; offcut reuse is excluded. Gates split fence runs and share their adjacent posts with those runs. Connected segment endpoints count once. A separate path has separate posts; a closed path joins its first and last endpoint.

A 48 ft fence run, 4 ft gate centre span and another 48 ft run at 8 ft spacing need 12 panels and 14 posts. Moving that gate to leave 1 ft and 95 ft fence segments instead needs 13 panels and 15 posts. Total length alone does not determine the purchase list.

What this estimate does not design

This is a quantity estimate for compatible panel systems. It does not design foundations, choose safe post spacing or assess wind, slope, gate loading or shared-post strength. Separate paths cannot represent a shared T-junction. Closed mode describes connectivity, not a checked polygon. Site-built pickets and chain-link fittings require different material lists.
