Brick & Block Calculator — Units, Pallets & Mortar

Estimate new brick, breeze-block and glass-block walls. Calculate courses, edge cuts, whole units, pallets, installation mortar and material cost.

Measure the wall

Exact dimensions calculate units per course, number of courses, and edge cuts.

Subtract doors and windows

Openings are removed from the wall before brick, block, and mortar quantities are calculated.

Brick, block, and bond

Use actual unit dimensions. Presets include the manufacturing size so the mortar joint produces the nominal module.

Material presets:

Waste, pallets, mortar, and cost

Bond choice sets a starting waste allowance. Edit supplier pallet counts, unit price, and bag yield for your product.

How the masonry estimate is calculated

    Repairing existing mortar joints?

For a focused repair takeoff with measured-joint mode, whole mortar bags, labor hours and editable project cost, use the tuckpointing calculator. Keep this brick calculator for new-wall units, pallets and installation mortar.

    Brick counter for walls

Measure wall length and height, then subtract doors and windows. The calculator combines actual brick size with the mortar joint to estimate units per course, courses, edge cuts, waste, pallets, mortar and material cost.

Breeze block and glass block calculator

Use the editable 12 × 12 breeze block or 8 × 8 glass block preset as a starting point. Decorative and glass blocks vary by manufacturer, so replace every preset dimension, joint width and pallet count with the supplier’s specification before ordering.

    Repairing an existing wall?

New-wall quantities belong in this calculator. For measured joint footage, rake depth, repair percentage, whole mortar bags, labor hours and editable project cost, use the dedicated tuckpointing calculator.

    Brick mortar calculator

For new walls, mortar volume is estimated from wall volume minus installed masonry volume, plus 10% handling allowance. Bag yield varies by product, joint profile, unit absorption and installer, so verify the manufacturer’s yield.

    Brick wall cost and waste

Running bond starts with 7% waste, stack bond 5%, and Flemish bond 10%. Enter price per unit for brick or block material cost. Delivery, labor, reinforcement, ties, flashing, lintels, access and tax are not included.

    Planning references

For repair method and product selection, consult the current instructions for the mortar actually specified on the job. Useful starting points include the QUIKRETE mortar-joint repair guide and SPEC MIX tuckpoint mortar guidance. These references do not replace assessment of the existing wall.
