How tubing capacity is calculated
Capacity is based on the tubing's internal diameter. The editor subtracts two wall thicknesses from the outside diameter, calculates the circular area, then multiplies by string length and fill percentage. It uses 231 cubic inches per US gallon and 42 US gallons per oil barrel.
Example: 2⅜-inch tubing
For an outside diameter of 2.375 inches and a 0.190-inch wall, the calculated internal diameter is 1.995 inches. The geometric capacity is about 0.1624 gal/ft, 0.00387 bbl/ft, or 2.017 L/m.
