Fraction Calculator — Mixed Numbers, Steps & Visuals
Calculate, simplify, convert, compare, and order exact fractions; generate equivalents and LCD forms or explore an interactive fraction wall.
Add, subtract, multiply, or divide fractions
Enter fractions, whole or mixed numbers, terminating decimals, or repeating decimals such as 0.(3).
Simplify a fraction or mixed number
Reduce the original numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor and inspect every form.
Convert between fraction, mixed, decimal, and percent
One exact input produces every common representation, including repeating decimal notation.
Equivalent fractions and least common denominator
Generate scaled forms of one fraction or rewrite two fractions over their least common denominator.
Compare and order a list of fractions
Sort up to ten fractions or mixed numbers exactly, then inspect their spread and common denominator.
Interactive fraction chart and wall
See how a value fills one whole and which denominator rows represent it exactly.

Calculation details
Exact fraction calculator for mixed numbers
Calculate with proper fractions, improper fractions, whole numbers, mixed numbers, and decimals. Results stay rational, so values such as 1/98 × 98 return exactly 1 instead of a rounded approximation.
Fraction simplifier with steps
Simplification finds the greatest common divisor of the original numerator and denominator, divides both by it, and reports the reduced fraction, mixed number, decimal, and percent.
Equivalent fractions and common denominators
Equivalent fractions multiply numerator and denominator by the same nonzero factor. LCD mode uses the least common multiple of two denominators and shows both rewritten fractions before addition or subtraction.
Fraction chart and visual model
The fraction wall divides one whole into equal cells for denominators 1 through 16. Exact matches are highlighted so equivalent fractions such as 1/2, 2/4, and 6/12 line up visually.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter a mixed number?
Use a space between the whole part and fraction, for example 2 1/3 or -4 5/8.
How are repeating decimals written?
Put the repeating digits in parentheses. For example, 0.(3) is exactly 1/3 and 0.1(6) is exactly 1/6.
What is the least common denominator?
It is the least common multiple of the denominators. Rewriting both fractions over the LCD makes their numerators directly comparable and allows addition or subtraction.
Can I order more than two fractions?
Yes. Compare and order accepts two through ten comma-separated or line-separated values and sorts them without decimal rounding.
Method and exact arithmetic
The calculator uses the vendored MIT-licensed Fraction.js exact rational engine. Inputs are parsed as integers and rational values, calculations use arbitrary-size integer numerators and denominators, and decimals are only produced for display.
