Fabric centre: 8 in from the left and 10 in from the top. Match it to the chart centre if stitching from the middle.

How fabric sizing works

Design size in inches = chart stitches × threads covered by each stitch ÷ fabric count per inch. For 140 × 196 stitches on 14-count Aida over one, the design is 10 × 14 inches. The same chart on 28-count fabric over two is the same size.

Add twice the visible border and twice the finishing allowance to each design dimension. With a 1-inch border and 2-inch finishing allowance per side, this example needs a 16 × 20-inch cut. Round both dimensions upwards to your chosen ruler increment and split the extra space equally between opposite edges.

The design is centred. Its top-left corner is half the difference between cut size and design size from each corresponding edge. The cloth centre is half each cut dimension; the chart centre may fall between stitches.

The existing-piece check uses the complete rounded cut. Maximum chart capacity is shown after reserving both allowances and respecting the ruler increment. It assumes a uniform square weave; use an actual count measured after any washing or pressing. It does not predict shrinkage, floss usage or whether a circular hoop fits.
