Arrow Kinetic Energy Calculator — Momentum & Measurement Journal

Calculate arrow kinetic energy and momentum from finished arrow mass and speed. Keep repeated measurements and compare separate setups in a transparent journal.

Enter the finished arrow mass and its measured speed. See energy and momentum, or keep a journal to compare repeated measurements and different setups.

Arrow measurement
Whole arrow, including point and fittings.
Grains and grams are different units.
Energy applies where this speed was measured.
Changing units preserves the quantity.
An estimate stays labelled as an estimate.
Use a separate name when equipment or conditions differ.

These are mass-and-speed calculations. They do not predict speed, penetration, trajectory, equipment suitability or hunting limits.

Each record keeps its original units and speed source. Include or exclude records explicitly. Setup summaries are separate; estimated speeds are never pooled with measured speeds.

Horizontal axis is speed in m/s.
The highlighted point identifies this record.

Calculation record
Illustrative example: 400 grains, 300 fps.
Mass 0.025919564 kg; speed 91.44 m/s.
Energy = ½mv² = 108.3602830983552 J.
Momentum = mv = 2.37008493216 kg·m/s.
Formula, units and measurement limits · sources

Energy E = ½mv², momentum p = mv. Internally mass is kilograms and speed metres per second. One grain is exactly 0.00006479891 kg; one foot is 0.3048 m. One pound-force is 0.45359237 × 9.80665 N. Results use these definitions rather than rounded customary-unit divisors.

For repeats, calculate energy for each shot, then average those energies. Energy from the average speed is generally different. Sample standard deviation uses n − 1; it is unavailable for one record. Identical values have zero observed scatter. Scatter does not include instrument or calibration error. Different setups and estimated speeds are summarized separately. No records are automatically discarded.

Supported computational range: mass 0.000001–10000 g and speed 0.000001–10000 m/s. These bounds do not describe safe equipment. Display digits are arithmetic precision, not measurement accuracy. The journal has at most 100 records and exists only in this tab; export it before leaving.
